RESTRICTED NARRATIVE: BY KIERA TOLHURST

We decided to film a restricted narrative film, to get an idea on how we could use particular techniques in our final product. A restricted narrative has less shots, and has little continuity. It can include jump cuts from one scene to another and the narrative has more cuts to make the shots more interesting and shorter. For example, in our small exercise, we shot Louis walking down to the vending machine in college. It is simple, lacks in continuity, and is shorter than the unrestricted. When he arrives at the vending machine, it is out of order, and in this cut, this is the only information the audience receives.

Narration Narration is the act of telling a story as well as the flow of story information moment by moment over the course of a film. Unrestricted Narration (Omniscient) Unrestricted narration has no restrictions to every aspect of the film.
