WHAT IS A SHORT FILM? A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. No consensus exists as to where the boundary is drawn, however the Academy of Motion Picture defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including credits."  Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and produced by independent filmmakers with a low budget.  EXAMPLE OF A POPULAR SHORT FILM On the website IMDB, it states that the most popular short film on record is "Tangled Ever After", which has a running time of only six minutes. Restricted and Unrestricted Narration is where a film industry will tell a story however can change the tension levels of the film and the surprise element by varying between restricted and unrestricted narration. Restricted Narration is where the producer of the film hides certain information from the audience so that the outcome and ending events of the sequence are made more surprising as the audience aren't aware of certain facts within the film and because of this, the ending is more impactful and effective. Moreover, due to not all of the information being clear and portrayed in the film, the build up towards the events ending the film are made more tense and gripping to the audience. Romantic Comedy – Sound   Non-diegetic soundtracks are the most used and the best way in which romantic comedies can create the feeling of excitement, tension or surprise . It leads and somewhat manipulates the audience to feel a sense of humour and cautious of what is going to happen, this can be contrasted with the use of iconography to build the atmosphere. This can be linked to how the editing is used with the aspect of cinematography to make the audience guess what’s going to happen or how the event will take place . From the sub-genre, the use of upbeat modern or slow 'classical' music makes a large impact on audience’s emotions . An old ‘classical’ song from a record may be played, however the sound will be incorporated to make it sound upsetting , meaningful and heart-breaking . BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE We have decided, as a group, to produce a 'behind-the-scenes' video to compliment our final product. When we begin filming on Thursday, we are planning to take a smaller, more compact camera which will be effective to film 'vlog' type footage on. The video will be casual and relaxed, but very informative as we film clips from our filming process, our location, characters etc. This will mean we have more information which we can reflect on when we come to the evaluation process nearing the end of the blog. We will all share behind the scenes filming as we will all be featured in the final film at some point (meaning we can't film the behind-the-scenes at the same time.) For example, if Louis is playing a character in the film he cannot film the vlog-type footage however Amber may be available to film this as she may not be included in that particular clip. The Potential Audience for our film Romantic Comedies often play off of stereotypes and are mostly centred around love; usually with a female character's quest for love, although sometimes it is a male character who is the protagonist and hopeless romantic. Because of this, the most common audience for remedies are females, furthermore, RomComs often get linked to teen films and chic flicks giving them another common audience of teenagers and young adults. Overall the most common audience group for RomComs is teenage girls. It is believed that RomComs attract female audiences around the age of 12 to 24 however the average audience figures can very when taking into account the family audience they additionally attract. Young females and families are possibly a more popular audience for these films because of the light and 'soppy' branded plots. After his most recent girlfriend breaks up with him he begins on a solemn and downcast walk home until he gets to the railway station and meets "the girl of his dreams"  and he begins on a chase to finding her. After an arduous and labyrinthine journey to find her he discovers she has a boyfriend. Audiences Romantic-Comedy films are often referred to as chick-flick films. These films are often aimed at a female audience and the age ranges from 18 up to 50. This is due to this genre of films having a light hearted nature that doesn't take much thinking about. Traditionally,romantic comedy films don't showcase serious topics but in recent years it has become more popular to introduce these more serious topics into the genre. However, there are different types of Romantic-Comedy films that are aimed at different audiences.  High School Musical This franchise of films are musical Romantic-Comedies aimed at teenagers. High School Musical is one of the highest grossing teen romantic comedy films ever due to its light hearted nature and upbeat songs.
